Carley La Pointe
Piano, Voice, Clarinet
Carley La Pointe has been continually performing since the age of five. From singing in the bathtub to performing in the Kenny Rodgers Holiday Show. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Music Performance. Carley attended Northern Illinois University performing in the Northern Illinois Chamber Singers as they were honored in an international music competition in Poznan, Poland in 2002.
While at NIU, Carley had the great opportunity to privately study from Chicago soprano Diane Ragains developing range and finding a greater love of classical singing. After transferring to Northeastern, to complete her musical study, she was fortunate once again to work with the wonderful Kathy Cowan, who helped with constant encouragement and collaboration. It is because of Kathy that Carley believes learning is meant to be challenging AND fun.
Among the many performances a few hold a special place in Carley's heart. They include, performing Handel's Messiah with the St. Charles Singers, Orff's Carmina Burana with The Elgin Symphony, Ein Deutches Requiem by Brahms with the Northern Illinois Concert Choir, William Byrd's Mass for four voices with the Northeastern Chamber Singers, Mozart's Mass in D minor and Respighi's Laude per la Nativia with the Northeastern Concert Choir.
Carley has also enjoyed performing in many large stage productions, Most recently as Mrs. Hayes in NEIU Opera Workshop's production of Susannah by Carlise Floyd. Her happiest musical moments have come recently, by performing in local churches for services and having the opportunity to share her love of music here at The Music Room with all her students. It has been a real joy for her to see their hard work and true talent shining bright!

First piece of music that had a profound effect on me: I would love to say that it was some wonderful Mozart aria or a Handel Oratorio but if I am being honest, I would have to say Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Music teacher who inspired me the most: I have been blessed with some wonderful teachers in my life. Firstly Kathy Cowan, my good friend and mentor who always encourages and challenges me. Secondly, Raeleen Horn for making playing "cool" and finally Ruth Ann Poppen for introducing me to my passion in the first place.
Favorite quote about music: “If you can walk you can dance, if you can talk you can SING!”
My best gig: The next gig.
Favorite classical piece: Die Lorelei by Franz Liszt
Favorite rock band: Metallica
Favorite jazz artist: Thelonious Monk
Favorite singer: Eva Cassidy
How I am making the world a better place:
By believing that you get what you give, and I intend to give as much good as I’ve got.
