George Wundsam

Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano

I have a degree from Columbia College Chicago for Music Performance. My primary instrument is the electric guitar, although I studied classical guitar for a number of years as well. I am also fluent on the piano. I listen to many different styles of music and I feel that it shows through in my playing. My favorite guitarists include George Benson, Trey Anastasio, and Larry Carlton.

While attending school I worked as a music theory tudor and I spent my last semester as a teaching assistant for a Columbia College music theory class. I was lucky enough to teach in a classroom setting and help individual progress in the class.

In my teaching experience I have found that many people learn many different ways. As an instructor I make sure I am knowledgeable enough to insure that every student can understand and apply information to their instrument. I take pride in my skills and I hope to pass a feeling of accomplishment to all my students.

Name: George Wundsam

College: Columbia College

Major: Music Performance

At The Music Room since:  April 2010

First piece of music that had a profound effect on me: My first semester at Columbia opened my ears to many new artist. I knew where I wanted to be musically, but could not find the vessel in which to get there. Larry Carlton became that vessel and in his song Smiles and Smiles to Go, a grooving, melody driven tune, he explores exciting improvisational ideas I had not know existed previously.

Music teacher who inspired me the most:  Performer, teacher, and activist, Harry Hmura was truly the first teacher to point me in an ever progressing direction. Through his teaching I became compelled to explore music ferociously and with great ambition.

Favorite quote about music:

"The trick is to surrender to the PHlow!"

~ Trey Anastasio of Phish

Favorite classical piece:  Octet III Movement Finale by Igor Stravinsky

Favorite rock band:  Pink Floyd

Favorite jazz artist: Pat Metheney

Favorite singer: Laura Izibor

My special projects:  I perform regularly with my own group The 409s, a Chicago R&B/Rock group, as well as the group AGSoul, a NeoSoul/ Jazz Pop group centered in the South Chicago suburbs. I am also working in collaboration with various Hip/Hop and Soul acts as a performer, MD, and song writer.
