There's a basic rule which runs through all kinds of music, kind of an unwritten rule. I don't know what it is. But I've got it. ~ Ron Wood

Beginning guitar classes are offered in three different levels for both children and adults.  Whether you are a new player with no prior experience, or a student with modest playing experience, there is a class that is designed to address your level of experience.  Each class lasts one hour and continues for eight weeks.  Advancement to the next level continues when the next session resumes. (Registration is required for each continuing class).

All guitar classes meet for an hour each week.  The price of the class is $184.  Please refer to the schedule or for a listing of class days & times.

Beginning Guitar, Part 1 is the perfect class for the student with no prior experience. Part 1 will teach students how to hold and tune the guitar and will cover proper playing position as well as guitar maintenance.   Students will learn notes in the first (root) position on the first four strings and will be able to play with elementary rhythms (whole notes, half notes, quarter notes). Class will emphasize music reading and theory.  Theory at this level will introduce the following concepts: the staff, lines and spaces, note names, measures and time signatures. Simple songs will be learned using a combination of all these elements.

Beginning Guitar, Part 2 is for students who have completed Beginning Guitar Part 1, or who have a very basic knowledge of guitar skills.  Students will learn notes on the 5th and 6th strings.  Chords will be introduced (C, G7, G and D7) as well as finger exercises to develop dexterity and coordination.  Theory skills will continue with learning half and whole steps, key signatures and rests.  Basic strumming patterns will be covered and the students’ song repertoire will be increased.

Beginning Guitar, Part 3 is for students who have had four to six months of group or private guitar instruction.  Class will focus on autonomous playing and will introduce more difficult and varied strumming patterns.  Chord repertoire will expand to nine different chords, including Em, D and A7.  Eighth notes will be introduced and finger exercises will continue at a faster tempo.

Guitar Ensemble is for students who have completed Guitar 1, 2 and 3 or for anyone who has a proficient knowledge of the skills covered in those classes. Guitar Ensemble classes are available for both children and adults.  The focus of this class will be learning expanded repertoire specific to the guitar in the form of duets, trios and larger ensemble pieces.
